Cantrell, Class of 2012, was a four-year letterman on the Vikings track and cross country teams. During her freshman season she was a state champion in cross country, and that same year was a state champion in track in both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races. She was named to the All-State team each of her four years in both track and cross country, and made the Foot Locker South Team Georgia during the 2009-10 season. She additionally ran for the Red Runners from 2009-12.Outside of Lakeside, Cantrell podiumed at the Junior Olympic Nationals in the 2,000-meter Steeple Chase while in high school. After graduating from Lakeside she continued her education at Georgia College & State University, and would remain involved with athletics.Cantrell ran for the Bobcats track and cross country teams during her freshman through junior seasons, making the travel team all three years. In 2013, she had two top-20 finishes while running in five of the team’s seven races.Cantrell graduated with a nursing degree from GCSU in 2016 and worked at Emory University Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. In 2019, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Emory University, and currently works there as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the Neuro ICU. Today, Cantrell lives in Tucker with her husband Trey. Together, they have one son, Wyatt.
Reed, Class of 1975, watched his first cross country meet with his dad in 1969 and saw Lakeside claim a state title. He later was a member of the cross country team from 1970-75. The Vikings won state championships in 1970, 1972 and 1973 with runner-up finishes in 1971 and 1974 with Reed as the sixth man from 1972-74.He was also a member of the track team from 1971-75, with the highlight being a team state championship in 1974. He finished third in the region in 1975 in the two-mile with a time of 9:43 and was a National Merit Finalist that same year. After graduating from Lakeside, Reed ran cross country at Georgia State University and in 1975 finished the season as the Panthers’ No. 2 runner.Reed began his teaching career in 1978 at nearby elementary schools. This allowed him to return to Lakeside to coach cross country and track from 1984-94. His teams won 17 region and two county championships and had 19 top-three county finishes and seven top-five state finishes.He returned to Lakeside as an assistant principal in 1997 before becoming the principal at Sagamore Hills from 2000-08. Reed finished his DeKalb career as Lakeside’s principal from 2009-13. His favorite task was presenting the Viking Award.
Tabb, Class of 1978, was a multi-sport athlete during his time with the Vikings. He lettered four years in track and field, and two years in volleyball. He also competed on the basketball and wrestling teams. As a pole vaulter on the track team, he won the 1978 AAA Region Championship as well as the AAA State Championship. He earned recognition as the Most Improved Fieldman as a sophomore, and was the Most Valuable Fieldman as a senior.Tabb was voted team captain of the track and field team his senior season, and received the prestigious Viking Award. On the volleyball court he was named Most Valuable Player as a junior, and was voted team captain during his junior and senior seasons. Tabb once again received the Viking Award, this time for volleyball, as a senior. He was a DeKalb County Sports Personality in 1978. Following his Lakeside days, Tabb attended the University of Georgia (1978-80) and graduated from Georgia State University in 1982 with a BBA degree. He later joined The Tabb Agency, Inc. in 1985 where he is currently President and CEO.Tabb has served as president, director or chairman of state, local, business, civic and church associations throughout his life. He has been married to his wife Cindy for over 40 years and has two children and two grandchildren.
