JEANIE MILLS

Before her years at Lakeside High School, Mills was raised in St. Petersburg, FL. There, she attended Boca Ciega High School and upon her graduation moved to Atlanta. She received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, her master’s degree from the University of Georgia, and her specialist degree from Georgia State University. Her first teaching opportunity came at Druid Hills High School where Mills would spend two years teaching math before making the transition to Lakeside. Her teaching career continued with the Vikings, as she spent 16 years in the classrooms teaching math and computer programming. While teaching she was named a Star Teacher by one of her students, who had been named a Star Student for achieving the highest SAT score in the class. Her impact was not limited to the classroom, as Mills also spent eight years as the sponsor of the Lakeside Drill Team. The Drill Team was the prominent halftime performance for each of the Vikings’ halftime shows for football, and was composed of 52 girls. Under Mills, the girls that made up the Drill Team were a disciplined group, and mimicked that of the military.Mills thoroughly enjoyed her time at Lakeside. She is proud of the time she spent teaching children to be disciplined and the lessons of leadership that she tried to instill into each of her students.
