MIKE AMERSON (1982)

Amerson, Class of 1982, was a three-year starter for the Vikings varsity basketball team. During his senior season, he was a captain and helped Lakeside become a competitive state-ranked team. Known for his ability to distribute the basketball and tenacious defense, Amerson was named to the DeKalb County Team of the Month, was a three-time Lakeside Defensive Player of the Year, and received the Coach’s Award and Hustle Award.Following his graduation from Lakeside, Amerson received his B.A. in Chemistry from Clemson University in 1986 and attended the Emory University School of Medicine for two years where he met his wife, Jennifer. He worked in the computer field for 12 years before going back to Kennesaw State University to earn a degree in Secondary Education in Math.Amerson later taught at Pope High School where he coached the girls varsity tennis team and led the Greyhounds to the playoffs in 2006. After his three sons graduated high school, he resumed playing tennis. His USTA 18 & Over team at the Blackburn Tennis Center won the 4.0 National Championship in Arizona in 2023. He credits his success to his parents Richard and Peggy, who supported his many athletic endeavors. He especially appreciates his mother’s dedication to transporting him and attending multiple events, often on the same day, while raising four other children.

ROB SCHNATMEIER (1987)

Rob SchnatmeierSchnatmeier, Class of 1987, was a four-year varsity letterman and three-year starter for the Vikings basketball team. In 1986, he was the Most Valuable Player of the Boston Shootout National Tournament, which saw Team Georgia place first. He was also the MVP of the North Springs High School Holiday Invitational Tournament, and set the tournament’s single-game scoring record with 44 points. His 25.6 points per game as a senior is the ninth-highest single-season scoring average in DeKalb County history. The DeKalb Neighbor newspaper named Schnatmeier the 1986 Athlete of the Year for DeKalb County. In 1987, he was the DeKalb Tip-Off Club AAA Player of the Year, and ended his Lakeside career as the program’s all-time leading scorer, a record that still stands to this day. His No. 25 jersey was retired by the Lakeside Tip-Off Club in 1987.Schnatmeier received a full four-year scholarship to Boston College where he continued his career for two years under Jim O’Brien. He later played under John Kress at the College of Charleston where he would graduate with honors in 1991.In 1994 Schnatmeier graduated from Georgia State University College of Law and embarked on a legal career. He is currently a partner at Smith, Schnatmeier, Dettmering & Kilgo, LLP. He is happily married to his wife Allison, and together they have three children: Robbie, Ella and Rhett.
