Phillips, Class of 1981, was a prolific member of the Lakeside swimming team. He broke the school record for many events including the 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard IM, and all three relays. He also attended High School Nationals during his senior year. Following high school, Phillips was recruited by International Swimming Hall of Fame coach Richard Quick at Auburn. As a Tiger, Phillips won the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in the 200-yard IM and the 400-yard IM events as a sophomore. After that season, Phillips decided to step away from the swim team to focus on his degree. After graduating college, Phillips became a financial advisor and worked for the Prince of Liechtenstein at GT Global and for Goldman Sachs for a decade. Phillips won awards for being a provider to Edward Jones and Smith Barney. He is now a financial advisor for Madison Park Capital Advisors. Phillips continued to swim competitively after college, setting multiple records as a Master Swimmer. He still holds three records including the 4 x 6000 Y Postal (4:46:40.95), 4 x 5K Postal (4:34:32.49) and the 4 x 10K Postal (9:46:26.14). Phillips won multiple medals, including the 400-Meter IM in the 2015 World Championships while competing in places like Japan, Canada, Russia,
and Qatar.
