BETH COOLEY CHEERLEADING AWARD

CATHY CLEMENT BUTLER (1980)

Butler, Class of 1980, is the fifth recipient of the Beth Cooley Cheerleading Award and spent four years as a Vikings cheerleader. She cheered for football and basketball and was the cheer captain her sophomore season. Butler was an avid dancer and participated in chorus and was a second lead in school plays. After Lakeside, Butler attended the University of Georgia and spent three years cheering for all of the football and basketball games. She was one of just 12 girls and 12 boys that formed the cheer squad. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and graduated from the Terry College of Business. Georgia’s campus is also where she met her husband Kevin Butler—a Redan High School alum and the first kicker in history to get inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Butler graduated in 1984 and began her work at Formally Yours—a bridal boutique in Atlanta that was founded by her mother Susan. She has since taken over the award-winning boutique and is assisted by her eldest and youngest daughter to carry on the family legacy into a third generation. Butler’s proudest accomplishment besides this award is her family. This includes Scarlett and Patrick Sugar and their son Ethan, Drew and Jacqui Butler and their children Bridget, Cara and Olivia, and Savannah and Sidik Abubakari.
