RICK BODIN (1972)

Bodin, Class of 1972, was a tennis standout that won the Region 8-3A Championship in 1971 with a runner-up finish in the 3A State Championship. He received the Viking Award and took home the Region 8-3A Championship again in 1972, before becoming the first player at Lakeside High School to hoist the GHSA state championship. After Lakeside, he accepted a tennis scholarship to Mississippi State University and played No. 5 singles as well as No. 3 doubles. In 1974, he took time off to take a position as Assistant Coach to Crawford Henry for team Atlanta that went on to win the National City Junior Team Championship in Columbus, Ohio. Bodin signed a second scholarship to Georgia State in 1975 where he captained the team and played No. 1 singles and doubles from 1975-77. He was also the first player in GSU history to participate in the NCAA tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas. After college, Bodin began his professional life teaching tennis in the Private Club industry—serving as Head Professional at the Dunwoody Country Club, Horseshoe Bend and Eagle’s Landing Country Club, as well as Director of Tennis at Lezure Point Racquet Club and Ansley Golf Club. Bodin’s parents, Russell and Sidone, and his legendary coach Crawford Henry were instrumental in supporting him throughout his accomplished career. He has been happily married to Carol Allen for 21 years now and they have a son Nicolas, who is a freshman majoring in sports communication and playing Tennis for LaGrange College.
