Kalvelage, Class of 1971, was a four-year varsity athlete on Lakeside’s wrestling team. Following a runner-up finish his freshman year, he was the Class AAA State Champion for three consecutive years (‘69, ‘70 & ‘71).He finished 4th place in the 1971 USWF National Freestyle Championships, his first of three All American career finishes.After graduating from Lakeside, Kalvelage attended the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on a full wrestling scholarship. During his time at UTC he won two SEIWA Conference Championships at the 134-pound weight class. He also finished third place at the NCAA Division II Championships in 1975 and 1976. He was inducted into the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Georgia National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2013.Since 1976 Kalvelage has founded three businesses in the pharmaceutical packing industry, as well as two real estate investment companiesJohn and his wife of 45 years, Nancy, enjoy a semi-retired life as owners of Butts Mill Farm, a recreational farm in Pine Mountain, GA. They have four children and three grandchildren.
A native to Atlanta, Janoulis attended Druid Hills High School where he first developed a love for wrestling. He was a GHSA AAU Champion in 1957, 1958 and 1959 before attending the University of Georgia to continue his wrestling career and work towards a degree in education.In 1964, Janoulis graduated with a bachelor’s degree and a Masters in Education from Georgia State and would go on to coach and teach in the DeKalb County School System.Janoulis arrived at Lakeside High School in 1972, teaching social studies and coaching wrestling, football, track and soccer. In 1997, he would lead his team to win the Class AAA State Wrestling Championship, and was named Dekalb County Class AAA Wrestling Coach of the Year, Georgia Class AAA Wrestling Coach of the Year and USA Wrestling Georgia Chapter Coach of the Year. For his years of service spent coaching the sport he loves, Janoulis was awarded the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award in 2013.Janoulis has been married to Celesta since 1965 and they have a daughter, Nicole, who is also a graduate of the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelors of Science Degree in Finance.
