JAN MICHAELIS-BILTHOUSE (1975)

Bilthouse, Class of 1975, swam all five years during her time at Lakeside, lettering each season. She was the recipient of the All-Star Award and the Bill Young Award in 1973 and 1974. Her number, 11, was retired by Lakeside at her graduation ceremony, honoring the swimmer that set numerous state records in the backstroke and relays.After graduating from Lakeside, Bilthouse received a scholarship to swim at theUniversity of Miami. During her first collegiate season, the Hurricanes won the Women’s National Championship. Her efforts at Miami led her to being inducted into its Sports Hall of Fame.Following graduating, Bilthouse went on to teach and coach the women's national swimming team in the Virgin Islands before beginning training for the Olympic swim team. After five months of training, it was announced that she had officially made the team.In 1982, Bilthouse returned to Atlanta to open a women’s clothing store. She got married to her husband, Ed, with whom she's been with for almost 31 years. Together, they have two daughters, Keely and Kelsey. In 2012, she sold all her stores and began running the non-profit store Dogwood and began building up another company focused on curating estate sales.



MARGARET SHINE (1971)

Shine, Class of 1971, was a prolific swimmer for the Vikings, swimming all four years of high school while setting multiple state records.As a ten-year swimmer for the Atlanta Dynamo Swim Club’s Elite Team, she was more than prepared to take the Lakeside swim team far.In 1969, she helped set the state record in the Girls 200-Yard Medley Relay. 1970 proved to be one of her best years in the pool, winning the 200 and 400-Yard Freestyle swims during the state championships.Her times in both events set the new state record, and alongside her teammates she bested the previous record in the 200-Yard Medley Relay that the Vikings had set just one year prior.This record would once again be broken the very next year by Shine and her relay team. Shine continued her domination of the 200 and 400-Yard Freestyle races in 1971, defending her gold medals at the state championships.Following her days at Lakeside, Shine got married to her husband Robert and started a construction company that lasted for 30 years.
