BASKETBALL

BRITT FRANKS (1979)

Franks, Class of 1979, earned two varsity letters playing for the Lakeside basketball team. As a junior he was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player. He went on to average 24.2 points per game and 14 rebounds per game throughout his outstanding senior year that would result in his second Most Valuable Player Award. Franks also played volleyball for two seasons at Lakeside and received the Most Valuable Player Award for both years.For his accomplishments on the basketball court, he was invited to participate in the annual Coca-Cola 1-on-1 Tournament and he bested the competition with a first-place finish. Altogether, he received 32 total awards from Lakeside High School, the Atlanta Tip-Off Club and the DeKalb Tip-Off Club.Following his high school graduation, Franks attended college at the DeKalb County Community College.He continued his basketball career, playing two seasons before focusing on his education. Britt’s legacy as an athlete was paired with his provision of positivity and always having a fantastic attitude towards everyone he met.



TORI STEWART (1976)

Stewart, Class of 1976, was a six-time varsity letterman in basketball and tennis. In 1975, she helped lead the basketball team to the Class AAA State Championship. The following year, she teamed up with Terri Russell to win the Class AAA State Doubles Tennis Championship, earning her the school’s Viking Award for both basketball and tennis.Stewart was selected to represent the north team in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-Star game in 1976, the same year she was featured in the DeKalb Sports Personality newsletter as Lakeside’s top female athlete.Following her days at Lakeside, Stewart received a tennis scholarship and attended Young Harris Junior College. During her time there, she won the state and region championships in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association tournament. Stewart later attended Valdosta State College on a tennis scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education before earning a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Central Florida.Today, Stewart is a registered nurse within the Seminole County School System, and is involved with YMCA basketball and USTA tennis.



LARRY SALE (1973)

Sale, Class of 1973, played basketball for five years and volleyball for two at Lakeside, earning varsity letters while competing in both sports. During his junior season, the basketball team won the Region 8-AAA Championship and during his senior year the team was Class AAA State runner-up. He was the DeKalb County Defensive Player of the Month in December of his senior season. The volleyball team won the state championship that same year and Sale was awarded the school’s prestigious Viking Award.Sale went on to play freshman basketball at Georgia Tech, but then, after transferring and graduating from the University of Georgia, turned his attention toward pursuing a career in medicine.He began as aphysician’s assistant before becoming an anesthesiologist that worked at Piedmont Hospital. He also joined the U.S. Navy Medical Corps and served in Operation Desert Storm.Sale is married to his high school sweetheart, Patricia Austin, a Class of 1972 Lakeside graduate. Together they have four daughters, all of whom are Lakeside High graduates.
