PETE FUSI (1973)

Fusi, Class of 1973, was a basketball standout at Lakeside and a DeKalb County star that led the Vikings program. Fusi was a double- double machine. As a senior he averaged 24.1 points per game and his 17.3 rebounds per game in 1973 still is a DeKalb County single-season record.During his senior season, Fusi was named a prep All-American, the MVP of the 1973 Class AAA State Tournament and DeKalb County Player of the Year as Lakeside celebrated taking home the Region 8-AAA championship. He finished with 1,434 points and 1,258 rebounds.Following graduation, Fusi went to the University of Georgia on a basketball scholarship. His older brother Steve helped divide the Fusi house by going to Georgia Tech after graduating from Lakeside in 1971.At UGA, Fusi played for Ken Rosemond, and later John Guthrie, when he took over as head coach for the 1974 season. Fusi en- joyed a productive year on the junior varsity squad, averaging 13.6 points and 8.1 rebounds in 16 games his first year. He went on to play in 48 games over his next three seasons before graduating with a Business Degree in 1977.
